Congratulations to Liz, Paul and Martin on the successful completion of your Day Skipper courses. Saturday was a dismal damp and windy day with very poor visibility, we tried to sail to Dartmouth with a strong SW wind. We were 3 miles off Berry Head when we tacked, 2 miles further on the visibility increased enough for us to see that we were making course for St Mary’s Bay………… all of half a mile along the coast!!!! You have to love modern yachts with there inherant leeway! so engine on and drive through to Dartmouth.
We anchored opposite Dartmouth in the river for lunch, and the rain stopped, Yay! the rest of the afternoon was ferry gliding onto the rubbish pontoon as the river was getting busy because of Regatta week. Exersises complete V1 bouy at Dittisham beckoned for our window seat table at the FBI for the evening meal……. as always superb food (thanks Ray), excellent beer and good company.
Sunday saw a windless morning but with a threatening gale later, so off we set to the Skerries Bouy, sailing at 2 knots - well we had all day! – then it came again RAIN and poor visibility….. we were getting used to it! so unfortunately it was motor on and plod back to Brixham dodging the pot markers as they lurked out of the gloom. Approaching St Mary bay again the rain cleared, we passed Berry head into the bay to find some breeze, so a final sail to the end of the breakwater, onto the berth and it was all over…….
Well done again guys, hope to see you all soon for your VHF courses. Liz and Paul enjoy your sailing in Greece in september.
If you fancy being part of our blog on one of our courses please give us a call.
