RYA Start Yachting Practical Course
This RYA Start Yachting course is a two day and two night on board short introduction to sail cruising for novices. If you are thinking of joining friends aboard their charter yacht, or have always wondered what it is like to sail on one of the yachts you see on the water from the shore, then this course is the stepping stone to becoming an effective crew member or even over time a Yachtmaster. Under the careful supervision of a fully qualified RYA instructor, with a maximum ratio of three students to one instructor (four if couples sharing double cabins) your learning time is maximised. During your Start Sailing course you will have plenty of opportunity to be involved in the day to day running and crewing aboard.
An RYA Sail Cruising scheme logbook is available for purchase separately from your instructor or by clicking the RYA banner below.
- Two nights accommodation aboard usually from Friday evening to Sunday
- Two full days of sailing tuition usually Saturday & Sunday

Holders of an RYA start yachting certificate can obtain a competent crew certificate by completing a further three days or two weekends of the competent crew course.
