All our instructors are fully RYA qualified and are selected  not only for their sailing abilities but also their personalities. We require all instructors to be well presented and professional at all times, with an ability to create good meals and an environment for safe and comfortable cruising. We regularly assess and review our training offering to ensure reliable and trusted tuition on every course.

Steve Styles. MBA. Yachtmaster Instructor & Powerboat Instructor.

Principal and chief instructor Steve is a co director of Brixham Sea School who has over 20 years sailing experience, having raced and cruised in various parts of the UK and Europe.  He has been sailing professionally since 2007. His passion for wildlife, particularly marine mammals, and zeal for imparting his knowledge of sailing and boat handling is infectious.  Also an accomplished cook, he ensures that all participants are comfortable and included, irrespective of their background, age or experience.

Tim Sunderland. Cruising, Shorebased & Powerboat Instructor.

Tim is a co director of Brixham Sea School who has over 20 years sailing experience. He has undertaken many yacht deliveries and cruised extensively around the UK and Mediterranean. He has been teaching in Brixham for over 3 years. An accomplished cook, his patient and personable style is a firm favourite. Tim also leads the sea schools activities on maintenance and has a passion for electronics and gadgets.

Elisabeth "The Mermaid" Hadley BCU Level 3 Sea coach.

Multi talented Elisabeth was trained as a sculptor and provided the voice of Wendy a plasticine model for Aardman animations.  Her work can be seen locally including on the entrance to the River Dart.  She has been paddling for over 20 years as far away as New Zealand and joins Brixham Sea School as our senior Kayak instructor.

Jerry Gilby. RYA Cruising and Shorebased Instructor.

Our newest member to the Team, Jerry is active with the RNLI Lifeboat in Dartmouth. A former policeman and driving instructor Jerry has swapped four wheels for the single keel!  Personable, reliable and organised Jerry is keen to continue the first class delivery of training and attention to clients which has become synonymous throughout Brixxham Sea School.
